[398] มารู้จัก Open Dictionary กันหน่อยซีครับ !!

สวัสดีครับ
เมื่อพุดถึงดิกชันนารี เราก็มักจะคิดว่าคนที่จะเอาศัพท์ใส่ลงไปในดิกชันนารีจะต้องเป็น expert หรือ ผู้เชี่ยวชาญ เท่านั้น ถือว่า ผู้เชี่ยวชาญต้องรู้มากกว่าคนทั่วไป

ก็อาจจะจริงครับ แต่ก็ไม่แน่ !!

ผมไปเจอเว็บนี้ เป็นเว็บของดิกยักษ์ใหญ่ คือ Merriam Webster Dictionary ที่นี่:

เขาเปิดโอกาสให้ชาวบ้านชาวเมืองเสนอคำศัพท์ใหม่ หรือศัพท์เก่าที่เอามาเติมหน้า-ต่อท้ายจนกลายเป็นศัพท์ใหม่ หรือเอาศัพท์เก่ามาใช้ในความหมายใหม่ ๆ แล้วก็บอกด้วยว่ามันใหม่ หรือต่างไปอย่างไร บางศัพท์ทำได้ดีมาก คือเพียงได้ดูรูปศัพท์หรือดูการใช้ในประโยคตัวอย่างก็พอเดาได้แล้วว่า ความหมายใหม่นี้คืออะไร เช่น

Dictionarying : = การไล่ดูศัพท์ในดิกชันนารีเพื่อเพิ่มพูนความรู้หรือคำศัพท์ของตนเอง (The act of browsing through dictionaries to expand knowledge and vocabulary.)
ตัวอย่าง: "What are you doing on merriam-webster.com? Just a little dictionarying." —Rob DeWolfe,

loveicidal = รู้สึกอยากจะฆ่าตัวตายเพราะพิษรัก [ (adjective) : To feel a sense of committing suicide because of love. ]
ตัวอย่าง: Charlie was loveicidal after Julie dumped him.
เรารู้อยู่แล้วว่า suicide = ฆ่าตัวตาย และ suicidal แปลว่า รู้สึกอยากจะฆ่าตัวตาย

smallify (verb) : = ทำให้เล็กลง หรือ มีขนาดเล็กลง ( to make small; to be made small )
ตัวอย่าง: My shirt was smallified when I washed it because it was 100% cotton.

bigly (adverb) : = อย่างใหญ่, อย่างมาก ( In a large way.)
ตัวอย่าง: When I heard that joke, I laughed bigly.

homegoing (noun) : = พิธีงานศพ (a funeral service)
ตัวอย่าง: It was a sad occasion at Michael's homegoing service.

และยังมีอีกเยอะแยะครับ ท่านลองเล่นดูก้ได้ครับ เพียงพิมพ์คำศัพท์ง่าย ๆ อะไรก็ได้ลงไปในช่อง “Open Dictionary ----- Search” ก็จะได้พบอะไรที่ใหม่หรือต่างจากที่เราเคยรู้

แน่นอนครับ บางทีเราก็เห็นด้วย บางทีก็ไม่เห็นด้วย แต่นี่เป็นการเปิดมิติใหม่ในการเรียนรู้ศัพท์ของเราอย่างน่าสนใจทีเดียวครับ
